How to build a digital marketing agency website in WordPress

Design & Layout Time About 3–6 hours 7 steps Updated 6 Sep 2026

DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

You can build a digital marketing agency website with a block theme and WordPress editor, without a page builder. Create focused service, work, about and contact pages, set a static homepage, then test every layout on mobile. Use a pre-built agency theme when speed matters more than designing each section yourself.

What you need

  • A WordPress site with administrator access
  • A domain and hosting account
  • Your agency logo, colours, services and portfolio content
  • A contact form solution if visitors need to send enquiries

Plan the agency site structure

Decide what visitors need to know before they contact you. A practical starting structure is Home, Services, Work or Case Studies, About, Blog and Contact. Add separate service pages when each service needs its own search-focused explanation.

Write one clear action for each important page, such as Book a consultation or Request a proposal. Do not start by choosing animations or decorative sections; unclear messaging is harder to fix later than styling.

Choose your WordPress design route

The manual route is to activate a block theme and use Appearance > Editor to edit the site styles, templates, header, footer and navigation. The Site Editor is available with block themes and lets you manage the whole layout with blocks.

You can also use a conventional theme with the page editor, or add a page builder such as Elementor. A page builder is not required for the website itself, but it may help if your chosen design depends on specialised sections or templates.

Build the core pages

Create the main pages under Pages > Add New. Build the homepage around a short positioning statement, a primary call to action, key services, proof such as results or testimonials, selected work, your process and a final enquiry section.

Keep service pages specific: explain the problem, what you do, who it is for, what the client receives and how to start. Use consistent headings, spacing and button styles instead of giving every page a different layout.

Set the homepage and navigation

Create and publish a page named Home, then go to Settings > Reading and select A static page. Choose Home as the homepage and, if needed, create an empty Blog page for posts. WordPress documents this as the standard way to assign a static front page.

Build the main navigation with short labels such as Services, Work, About and Contact. With a block theme, edit the Navigation area in the Site Editor. With a classic theme, use the theme's menu controls. The common Friday failure is publishing a new homepage but leaving the site set to show latest posts, so check the public URL after saving.

Add leads and proof

Place one primary call to action above the fold and repeat it after the services, case studies and final section. Add testimonials, client names, measurable outcomes or clear examples of deliverables only where you have permission to publish them.

WordPress does not provide a complete enquiry form workflow in core. If you need visitors to submit details, add a reputable form plugin or connect an external form service, then test delivery, confirmation messages and spam protection before launch.

Check responsive layouts before launch

Preview the homepage and key templates at desktop, tablet and mobile widths. Check that headings do not wrap awkwardly, buttons remain easy to tap, images are cropped correctly, navigation opens and closes properly, and no section creates horizontal scrolling.

Also test every menu item, form notification, phone link and external profile link. Clear any caching layer after major layout changes if visitors still see the old homepage. Site-wide header and footer edits can affect every page using those template parts, so review several page types after saving.

Use a pre-built agency layout

Fast way: install and activate Gesto - Digital Marketing Agency, import a suitable agency demo, then replace the sample logo, copy, images, services, case studies and contact details. Its agency-focused layouts, Elementor and WPBakery support, and demo import are intended to reduce the initial design work.

Do not publish imported content unchanged. Remove unused pages and plugins, check that forms point to your address, replace stock claims with evidence you can support, and review the mobile version after customising the demo.

Questions

Can I build an agency website in WordPress without Elementor?
Yes, you can build it with a block theme and the WordPress Site Editor. The editor can control the header, footer, navigation, templates, styles and page content, so a page builder is optional rather than mandatory. Choose Elementor or another builder only when you need its specific widgets, templates or editing workflow.
What pages should a digital marketing agency website include?
A useful agency website usually includes Home, Services, Work or Case Studies, About, Blog and Contact pages. Add individual service pages when your offers need detailed explanations or separate search visibility. Keep the navigation short, then link to supporting pages from service sections and calls to action rather than putting every page in the main menu.
Why is my new homepage still showing blog posts?
Your site is probably still set to display latest posts instead of a static page. Create and publish the Home page, open Settings > Reading, choose A static page, select Home as the homepage, and save. If the change is correct but visitors see the old version, clear your caching plugin, host cache or browser cache.
Do I need a plugin for an agency contact form?
Yes, you normally need a form plugin or an external form service for visitors to submit enquiries. WordPress core can create pages and content but does not provide a complete contact-form workflow. Test notification delivery, the confirmation message, spam controls and the form on mobile before sending traffic to it.
Is a pre-built agency theme faster than designing the site manually?
Usually, because the homepage structure, inner-page layouts and styling are already prepared. You still need to replace demo content, configure forms, check responsive layouts and remove anything your agency does not use. Manual construction is fine when you need a distinctive design or want to minimise theme-specific dependencies.
