How to create an IT services website in WordPress

Design & Layout Time About 2–4 hours for a basic site, or about 45 minutes with an imported starter layout 6 steps Updated 10 Sep 2026

DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

You can create a professional IT services website in WordPress without a page-builder plugin by using a block theme, Pages and the Site Editor. Build the homepage around services, outcomes, proof and contact, then use a pre-built theme such as Tecnologia when you need a polished launch faster.

The route
  1. 01Plan the site structure
  2. 02Choose a suitable theme
  3. 03Build the homepage manually
  4. 04Set the site-wide layout
  5. 05Add pages and navigation
  6. 06Check mobile and contact paths

What you need

  • A WordPress site with administrator access
  • Your logo, colours and preferred fonts
  • A list of services, testimonials and project examples
  • A business email address and contact details

Plan the site structure

Keep the first version small. Create a Home page, Services page, About page, Work or Case studies page, Contact page and a Blog page only if you will publish useful articles.

For Services, decide whether visitors need one overview page or separate pages for items such as managed IT, cloud migration, cybersecurity, app development or technical support. Use plain service names in the navigation so visitors know where each link goes.

Choose a suitable theme

For the manual route, install a block theme from Appearance > Themes > Add New. A block theme lets you edit the header, footer, templates and page content from Appearance > Editor; the Site Editor is available only when a block theme is active.

If you use a classic theme instead, its design controls normally appear under Appearance > Customize. Do not edit the theme files directly for routine styling, because an update can overwrite those changes.

Build the homepage manually

Open Pages > Add New, create the Home page and add blocks in this order: a short hero statement, a primary contact button, three to six service cards, a section explaining your process, selected case studies, client logos or testimonials, and a final contact call to action. WordPress Pages are intended for fixed content such as About and Contact information.

Keep each section focused on one decision. Say who you help, what problem you solve and what the visitor should do next. Use real results where possible, such as reduced downtime, faster releases or improved response times, rather than vague claims.

Set the site-wide layout

With a block theme, use Appearance > Editor to edit the header, footer, styles and templates. Set one content width, a small colour palette, readable typography and consistent button styles, then reuse those choices across the pages. The Site Editor uses templates and reusable template parts for areas such as headers and footers.

With a classic theme, use its Customizer or theme settings for the logo, colours, typography and header. If a setting is missing, do not assume a code hook exists; check the theme documentation before adding custom code.

Add pages and navigation

Create the Services, About, Work, Contact and any legal pages, then publish them before adding them to the main navigation. In a block theme, edit the Navigation block in the Site Editor. In a classic theme, manage the menu through the theme’s menu screen or Customizer. WordPress navigation can contain published pages, categories and custom links.

Set the Home page as the static front page and use a separate Blog page if you plan to publish posts. Check every menu item in a private browser window; an unpublished page will not appear as a normal navigation item.

Check mobile and contact paths

Review the homepage at desktop, tablet and mobile widths. Check that headings wrap cleanly, buttons are large enough to tap, images are compressed and the header does not take up most of a phone screen. Test the phone, email and enquiry links from an actual mobile device.

You can create the layout without a plugin, but a working enquiry form normally requires a form plugin or a form service. Send a test enquiry and confirm that it reaches the right inbox. If you import a builder-based layout and only see the header and footer, check that the correct homepage is selected, the required builder is active, the imported template is published and cached files have been cleared; these are recurring causes of missing imported designs.

Fast way: use Tecnologia if you want a ready-made IT or app-development layout rather than designing every section yourself. Install the theme through Appearance > Themes, activate it, install the required page builder if prompted, import a suitable demo and replace the sample copy, images and contact details. It supports Elementor and WPBakery, so choose one builder and do not mix builders on the same page.

Questions

Can I create an IT services website in WordPress without Elementor?
Yes. A block theme and the WordPress editor are enough for a brochure-style IT services website. Build pages with core blocks, edit the header and footer in <strong>Appearance > Editor</strong>, and use the Navigation block for menus. You may still need a separate form solution for enquiries, but the page layout itself does not require Elementor or another page builder.
What pages should an IT services website include?
An IT services website should usually include Home, Services, About, Work or Case studies, Contact and any required privacy or legal pages. Give each major service its own page when visitors need different explanations or calls to action. Keep the navigation short, and link to the most important enquiry path from the homepage and each service page.
How do I make the homepage look professional?
Make the homepage professional by giving it a clear headline, one primary call to action, focused service sections, evidence of capability and a visible contact path. Use consistent spacing, colours and typography rather than adding effects everywhere. Show specific outcomes, industries served, certifications, testimonials or case studies only when you can support them with accurate information.
Why does my imported WordPress demo show only the header and footer?
An imported demo that shows only the header and footer usually has a wrong static homepage, missing page-builder plugin, unpublished template, incomplete demo import or stale cache. Check the page selected in the reading settings, activate the builder required by the theme, confirm the page and templates are published, then clear builder, plugin, browser and server caches before checking again.
