How to create a corporate business website with WordPress

Design & Layout Time About 60–90 minutes for a basic site 7 steps Updated 11 Sep 2026

DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

You can create a corporate business website in WordPress without coding by choosing a suitable theme, creating core pages, setting a static homepage, building your navigation and checking the design on mobile. A business theme or page builder can shorten the setup, but neither is required for a basic site.

What you need

  • A WordPress website with administrator access
  • Your logo, brand colours and business copy
  • Images for services, team or case studies
  • A contact method and privacy information

Plan the site structure

List the pages visitors need before changing the design. A typical corporate site includes Home, About, Services, Case studies or Portfolio, Blog, Contact and Privacy Policy. Add a separate page for each major service if those services need search-friendly explanations.

Keep the main menu short. Put less important links, such as privacy information or a careers page, in the footer rather than making the header difficult to scan.

Choose and activate a theme

Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New and choose a theme that supports the layout you want. A block theme lets you edit the header, footer, templates and global styles through Appearance > Editor. A classic theme normally uses Appearance > Customize for branding and layout settings.

Check the theme on a staging site first if the existing website is live. Changing themes can remove theme-specific layouts, widgets or homepage sections even though your pages and posts remain in WordPress.

Create the core pages

Go to Pages > Add New and create the pages from your plan. Use the block editor to add headings, paragraphs, images, buttons, columns and service sections. Give each page one clear primary purpose and finish it with a relevant next step, such as requesting a quote or booking a call.

Use real business information before polishing the design. Placeholder text and stock claims are easy to miss after launch, particularly when a demo has created extra pages.

Build the homepage

For a corporate site, set a dedicated page as the homepage. Go to Settings > Reading, choose the option for a static page, then select your Home page. Select a separate page for posts if you plan to publish news or articles.

Design the homepage in this order: what the company does, who it helps, key services, proof such as testimonials or case studies, and a clear contact action. With a block theme, edit the front-page template in Appearance > Editor when the page content does not appear as expected.

Set the brand and navigation

Add the site title, logo, site icon, colours and typography using the theme’s settings. In a block theme, use the Site Editor’s Styles and Navigation areas. In a classic theme, use the Customizer and the menu settings provided by the theme.

Create a primary menu containing only the pages visitors need. If a new page does not appear, add it to the menu and confirm that the menu is assigned to the theme’s main menu location. With a block theme, creating a menu does not automatically display it; the Navigation block must be connected to that menu in the header.

Check every device and link

Preview the site at desktop, tablet and phone widths. Check the logo, navigation, buttons, forms, page titles, images, contrast and text spacing. Submit every contact form yourself and confirm that messages reach the intended inbox.

Clear any caching layer if an old header, menu or homepage continues to appear. Also check that the correct static homepage is selected; an otherwise well-designed page can appear missing when WordPress is still displaying the latest posts or a theme template.

Use a business theme for the fast route

If you want to start from a prepared corporate layout, Americ Corporate Business is a practical shortcut. It provides responsive layouts, demo import and drag-and-drop editing, so you can replace the sample logo, colours, text and images instead of designing every section from an empty page.

Install the theme from the WordPress dashboard, activate it, then follow its setup instructions for required plugins and demo content. Back up the site before importing a demo, because imported pages, menus and settings can add content that you will need to replace or remove. This route is faster, while the manual block-editor route is fine when you need a small, distinctive site and want fewer theme-specific dependencies.

Questions

Do I need a page builder to create a corporate WordPress website?
No, you do not need a page builder for a basic corporate website. WordPress pages and the block editor can create service sections, buttons, testimonials, images and contact calls to action. A page builder is useful when you need complex layouts or want a visual editing workflow, but it adds another system to maintain and learn.
How many pages should a corporate website have?
A small corporate website usually needs five to eight main pages: Home, About, Services, a proof page such as Case studies, Blog if required, Contact and legal pages. Create separate service pages when each service has different customers, benefits or search intent. Avoid adding pages only because a theme demo includes them.
Why is my homepage not showing the page I designed?
The usual cause is that WordPress is displaying the latest posts, a different static page or the theme’s front-page template. Check Settings > Reading, confirm the intended Home page is selected, and then check Appearance > Editor if you use a block theme. Caching can also make an older homepage appear after you save changes.
Why does my new page not appear in the menu?
Creating a page does not always add it to navigation automatically. Add the page to the assigned menu and save the menu. With a block theme, open Appearance > Editor > Navigation and check that the Navigation block in the header is connected to the menu you edited. Also check that the page is published rather than saved as a draft.
Can I change themes after building the website?
Yes, but changing themes can alter templates, headers, footers, widgets, menus and theme-specific page sections. Your pages and posts normally remain in WordPress, but their appearance may change. Make a backup, test the new theme on staging, check every page and confirm the homepage and menu settings before switching the live site.
