How to create a yacht rental booking website

Booking & Events Time About 2–4 hours for a basic site; longer for payment and availability rules 7 steps Updated 27 Sep 2026

BOOKING & EVENTS
The short answer

You can create a basic yacht rental website with WordPress pages and a booking request form. For live availability, deposits, automatic confirmation and protection against overlapping reservations, you need a booking plugin or custom development. The practical route is to list each yacht as a bookable product, set its schedule and connect payment and email notifications.

What you need

  • A WordPress website with a domain and hosting
  • Admin access to WordPress
  • Photos, specifications, prices and availability for each yacht
  • A payment account if you will take deposits online
  • Your cancellation, weather and charter policies

Choose the booking model

Decide whether customers will pay online for a confirmed charter or submit a request for you to approve. Define the rental unit first: a full day, a number of hours, a multi-day charter, or a fixed departure slot.

For a small business with irregular availability, a request form can be enough. For live calendars, online deposits and automatic conflict prevention, use a booking plugin or custom booking development. WooCommerce Bookings supports rentals, date and time rules, resources, persons and booking costs.

Build the core pages

Create a home page, fleet page, individual yacht pages, about page, contact page and a booking or availability page. Each yacht page should show capacity, length, facilities, departure marina, permitted activities, crew arrangements, prices, deposit terms and clear photographs.

Add a request form if you are starting manually. Ask for dates, preferred yacht, passenger count, contact details and any special requirements. This route is fine for low booking volume, but the form will not reserve a date or stop two people requesting the same yacht.

Install the booking system

For a paid online workflow, install WooCommerce and a booking extension that supports rentals. WooCommerce Bookings requires a compatible WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP and working WP-Cron setup; its current documentation lists WordPress 6.4 or later and WooCommerce 9.0 or later among its requirements. Check the extension’s requirements before installation.

Set the site time zone correctly in WordPress, configure currency and tax settings, then connect the payment gateway. If you only want to collect enquiries, skip checkout and use a request-based booking workflow instead.

Add each yacht as bookable

Create one bookable product for each yacht, or use separate products when the same yacht has materially different charter packages. Set the booking duration, minimum and maximum duration, lead time, buffer between charters and the maximum number of bookings per time block.

Use a resource for each physical yacht when availability must be shared across several products or packages. Add person settings when price or capacity depends on adults, children or total passengers. WooCommerce Bookings provides resource, person, availability and cost settings for this purpose.

Set prices and policies

Enter the base charter price, seasonal rates, weekend adjustments, hourly or daily costs, cleaning or fuel charges and optional extras such as catering, water sports equipment or a skipper. Make the checkout display the full price before payment.

Publish cancellation, deposit, weather-delay, identification, safety and damage-deposit terms beside the booking form. Decide whether bookings are confirmed immediately, held for approval or left unpaid until you review them. Do not rely on an email conversation as your only record of a reservation.

Test the whole booking path

Make test bookings for a single day, the minimum duration, the maximum duration, a blocked date, an unavailable yacht and an overlapping time. Check the customer email, admin notification, order status, calendar entry, payment result and cancellation process.

If dates appear unavailable unexpectedly, check the default availability rule, custom rules, resource conflicts and bookings still held in carts. WooCommerce identifies conflicting availability rules and abandoned in-cart bookings as common causes of calendars showing no available slots.

Use the fast setup route

For the quickest launch, use Nevica as the yacht-focused front end, import its fleet-style layout, replace the sample yachts with your own content and configure the supplied booking workflow. The vendor description says Nevica supports a WooCommerce-based booking option through its Pix-booking plugin and a request-based option through Fastbook.

Choose the request option if every charter needs manual approval. Choose the WooCommerce route if you need customer checkout, deposits and a more structured booking record. Whichever route you use, verify the actual availability, payment and email settings before accepting real reservations.

Questions

Can I create a yacht rental website without WooCommerce?
Yes, you can create the website with WordPress pages and a request form without WooCommerce. That works when you personally confirm dates, prices and payment with each customer. It does not provide a live availability calendar, automatic payment workflow or reliable protection against overlapping requests, so a booking plugin becomes worthwhile as booking volume increases.
Should each yacht have its own booking product?
Usually, yes: giving each yacht its own bookable product keeps its photos, capacity, price and availability clear. If several charter packages use the same physical yacht, connect them to the same shared resource where your booking system supports resources. That prevents one package from being booked while another package has already reserved the yacht.
Can customers book by the hour and by the day?
Yes, if your booking system supports the durations you need. Configure fixed blocks when customers should choose defined slots, or let them select a start and end time when flexible durations are acceptable. Test transitions carefully: an hourly booking ending at 4 pm must not overlap a daily or evening charter beginning at 4 pm.
How do I prevent double bookings?
Use one availability record or shared resource for each physical yacht, then make every package that uses that yacht refer to it. Also set buffers for cleaning, refuelling and crew changeovers. A contact form alone cannot prevent double bookings, and separate calendars maintained by different staff can drift out of date.
Do I need online payments for yacht bookings?
No. You can accept a booking request and take payment by invoice, phone or bank transfer after approval. Online payments are useful when you want deposits, automatic order records and immediate confirmation. If weather, crew or marina approval must be checked first, keep the booking pending until a member of staff approves it.
