How to create a winery website
You can create a winery website with WordPress pages, a custom homepage and a simple navigation menu. Start with Wines, Visit, Events, About and Contact, then add WooCommerce only if you need online sales. A winery-focused theme is the faster design route.

What you need
- A WordPress website with administrator access
- Your winery logo, colours and brand photographs
- Wine descriptions, prices, tasting notes and location details
- A decision on whether visitors can buy wine or book events online
Plan the site structure
Decide what visitors need to do first: buy wine, book a tasting, find your location, join a wine club or learn about the winery. Use those actions to shape the site rather than starting with colours or decorative effects.
For most wineries, prepare pages for Home, Wines, Visit, Events, About and Contact. WordPress Pages are intended for stable information such as these, while Posts are better for dated news and updates.
Create the core pages
Go to Pages and create the main pages before styling the site. Add the address, opening hours, tasting-room details, parking information and contact method to the Visit or Contact page. On the Wines page, show each wine with its variety, vintage, tasting notes, bottle size, price and a clear next action.
Use real photographs of the vineyard, tasting room, bottles and people where possible. Keep important information in text instead of placing it only inside images, so visitors can read it on phones and search engines can understand it.
Set the homepage and menu
Set the page you want visitors to see first as the site homepage in your WordPress reading settings, or use the homepage controls provided by your theme. Then edit the site navigation and add the core pages in a sensible order: Wines, Visit, Events, About and Contact.
Block themes use the Navigation block for menus. You can add page links, custom links and submenus, but once you convert an automatic page list into individually edited links, newly published pages may no longer appear automatically. Check the menu after adding pages.
Lay out the homepage
Build the homepage from a small number of useful sections: a strong opening image and one sentence about the winery, a button to view wines, a short Visit section with location and opening hours, featured wines, upcoming events, and a final contact or booking call to action.
Do not make visitors hunt for the tasting-room address or current opening hours. Keep the primary buttons visible on smaller screens, and avoid autoplay video or oversized images that push the wines and visit details too far down the page.
Add selling and bookings only when needed
A brochure-style winery website does not require WooCommerce. If you want to take online orders, install WooCommerce and create products for the bottles, cases or memberships you actually sell. Use product categories for broad groups and attributes for structured details such as variety, vintage or bottle size; WooCommerce supports both for organising and filtering products.
For tastings, tours and seasonal events, begin with a clear Events page containing the date, time, location, price and booking action. Add a dedicated booking or events plugin only when you need availability, payments, reminders or attendee management. Before accepting orders or bookings, confirm your payment, shipping and age-check requirements.
Check the site before launch
Preview every page on a phone, tablet and desktop. Test the menu, wine buttons, contact form, map, event booking path, checkout and confirmation emails. Check that product images are compressed, headings are in a logical order, links have descriptive labels and the site still works when images are slow to load.
The common Friday problem is an attractive homepage with an old opening schedule or an event that has already passed. Assign someone to review hours, availability, prices and upcoming events regularly, and remove expired promotions promptly.
Take the fast design route
If you do not want to assemble the layout from a general-purpose theme, use Tracian. It is designed for wineries, vineyards and wine shops, with wine showcases, event listings, a customisable homepage and compatibility with WooCommerce and Elementor.
Install it from Appearance > Themes > Add New or upload the theme file, activate it, then replace the demo content with your own wines, photographs, opening hours and events. The manual WordPress route is fine for a small brochure site; Tracian mainly saves time on the initial visual structure.

Questions
- What pages should a winery website have?
- A winery website should usually have Home, Wines, Visit, Events, About and Contact pages. Add Wine Club, Shop, Tours or Journal pages only when you have useful content and a clear reason for visitors to use them. Keep opening hours, location, tasting details and the main booking or buying action easy to find from the homepage and menu.
- Do I need WooCommerce to create a winery website?
- No, you do not need WooCommerce for a winery website that only presents wines, visits and events. Use normal WordPress Pages for that type of site. Install WooCommerce when visitors need to choose products, pay online, manage a basket or receive order confirmations. Adding it to a brochure site can create unnecessary settings and maintenance.
- How should I display wines on the website?
- Display wines in a dedicated collection with a separate page or clear section for each important bottle. Include the name, variety, vintage, tasting notes, food pairing, bottle size and price where relevant, plus a prominent buy, enquire or visit call to action. If using WooCommerce, categories and attributes can help organise and filter the catalogue.
- How do I add winery events in WordPress?
- Create an Events page with each event's date, time, location, description, price and booking method. For a few events, a page or post is enough. Use an events or booking plugin when you need recurring events, capacity limits, payments, reminders or attendee records. Review the page regularly so cancelled and past events do not remain prominent.
- Is a winery theme better than a general WordPress theme?
- A general WordPress theme can work well if you are comfortable designing the pages yourself. A winery-focused theme is faster when you need wine product sections, event layouts and an appropriate homepage structure from the start. The theme will not replace your photography, accurate visit information or product content, so those still need to be prepared carefully.
