How to create a health and wellness website with WordPress
Build the site with WordPress pages, a focused homepage, global colours and type, clear navigation, and mobile checks. You do not need a plugin for the layout; use a specialist theme when you want the same structure with less setup.

What you need
- A WordPress site with admin access
- Your logo, brand colours and type choices
- Homepage copy and photographs
- A list of services, articles or resources to publish
Plan the site structure
Decide what the site must help visitors do first: book a consultation, read advice, join a programme, buy a product or contact you. Keep the main navigation short, usually with Home, About, Services, Blog or Resources, and Contact.
Create the pages before styling them. For a typical health and wellness site, prepare a homepage, about page, services page, blog page, contact page and any legal or disclaimer pages your business needs.
Choose your theme route
For the manual route, activate a block theme and use Appearance > Editor. WordPress then lets you edit site-wide styles, headers, footers, templates, navigation and page layouts with blocks. Styles can control colours, typography, spacing and layout across the site.
This route is fine for a small site and avoids adding a page-builder plugin. Its drawback is time: you must build the homepage sections, header, mobile menu and blog layout yourself, and the exact controls vary between themes.
Create the core pages
Go to Pages > Add New and create the pages from your plan. Use headings for the page structure, short paragraphs, buttons for the next action, and image blocks with useful alternative text. Keep health claims specific and support them with appropriate qualifications or sources where needed.
Set the homepage under Settings > Reading by choosing a static page, then select a separate page for posts if you want a blog. WordPress supports either a latest-posts homepage or a static page.
Watch for a common failure: if your block theme has a Front Page template, it can take priority over the Reading setting. Edit or remove that template if your selected homepage does not appear.
Build the homepage
Arrange the homepage in a simple order: a clear introduction and primary button, a short explanation of who you help, your main services, proof such as qualifications or testimonials, useful resources, and a final contact section.
Use Group, Cover, Columns, Image, Heading, Paragraph, Buttons and Query Loop blocks as appropriate. Keep each section focused on one decision. If you publish articles, use a Query Loop or latest-posts section to show recent resources without manually updating the homepage each time.
Do not place every service, testimonial and article on the first screen. A crowded wellness homepage makes the main action harder to find and usually creates more work on smaller screens.
Set the global design
Open Appearance > Editor > Styles and set a small colour palette, readable body text, heading sizes, button treatment, content width and spacing. Reuse those settings instead of choosing a different colour or font for every block. Global styles are intended to keep posts, pages and templates consistent.
Edit the header and footer as template parts so the same branding and contact details appear across the site. Build the menu with the Navigation block and check its mobile overlay. A menu created in the editor will not appear automatically unless a Navigation block in the header is connected to it.
Check mobile and publish
Preview the homepage, service pages, blog and contact page at a narrow width. Check that headings wrap sensibly, buttons are easy to tap, images do not push content outside the screen, and the mobile menu opens and closes correctly. Also test every form, phone link, email link and booking button.
Save a backup before changing the theme or importing a design. Changes to a header, footer or other template part can affect every page that uses it, not just the page currently open.
If you want the fast route, use Gracioza. Its health-focused layouts and demos are aimed at coaches, nutritionists and wellness bloggers, so you can start from a relevant structure instead of assembling every section from a general-purpose theme. Replace the demo content, confirm the mobile layout and remove any sections you do not need before publishing.

Questions
- Do I need a plugin to create a health and wellness website layout?
- No, you do not need a plugin for the basic layout. A block theme and the WordPress Site Editor can handle pages, templates, headers, footers, styles and navigation. You may need separate plugins later for bookings, payments, memberships, advanced forms or other business functions, but those are additions rather than requirements for the design itself.
- What pages should a health and wellness website include?
- A health and wellness website should usually include Home, About, Services, Blog or Resources, and Contact. Add a dedicated booking, programme, shop or testimonials page when it supports your main goal. Include any privacy, terms, disclaimer or professional information your business requires, particularly if visitors could mistake general content for personal medical advice.
- How do I make the WordPress homepage show the design I created?
- Create and publish a page, then choose it as the static homepage under Settings > Reading. If it does not appear, check Appearance > Editor > Templates for a Front Page template, because that template can override the Reading setting. Edit that template or remove it before selecting the static homepage again.
- How can I make the site look good on phones?
- Use short sections, readable text, full-width buttons where useful and images that can scale down. Preview the header, navigation, homepage, forms and service pages at a narrow width before publishing. In block themes, the Navigation block can use a mobile overlay menu, but you still need to test the actual menu and every important button on a phone.
