How to build a website for a VPN or cloud service

Design & Layout Time About 1–3 hours for the initial layout 6 steps Updated 8 Nov 2026

DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

You can build the marketing site with WordPress, a suitable theme and the block editor without custom code. Add WooCommerce or another service integration only when you need subscriptions, checkout or account provisioning; the website alone does not create VPN or cloud accounts.

The route
  1. 01Plan the service-led structure
  2. 02Create the core pages
  3. 03Build the layout manually
  4. 04Set up navigation and mobile views
  5. 05Add subscriptions only when needed
  6. 06Import a ready-made layout

What you need

  • A working WordPress installation and domain
  • Admin access to WordPress
  • Your VPN or cloud plan details, branding and support contact
  • A payment or provisioning service if customers will subscribe online

Plan the service-led structure

Write the page list before choosing colours or animations. A practical starting structure is Home, VPN plans or Cloud plans, Features, Pricing, Setup guides, About, Support, Privacy policy and Terms. Put the main action, such as Choose a plan or Start a trial, in the header and near the end of each service section.

Make the homepage answer four questions quickly: what the service does, who it is for, what each plan includes and how customers get help. Do not claim specific speeds, server counts, logging policies or security results unless your service can support those claims.

Create the core pages

Go to Pages > Add New and create the pages from your structure. Build the homepage with a clear hero section, plan cards, a comparison table, setup steps, supported platforms, customer support details and a short FAQ. Use separate service pages when VPN and cloud products have different audiences or pricing.

If WordPress shows your latest posts instead of your designed homepage, create a Home page and, if needed, an empty Blog page. Then go to Settings > Reading, choose a static homepage and select the two pages. WordPress documents this as the standard way to set a custom front page.

Build the layout manually

With a block theme, use Appearance > Editor to edit the header, footer, templates, colours, typography and page layout. Patterns let you save repeated sections such as pricing cards, testimonials or call-to-action panels. The Site Editor also lets you preview responsive styles for different viewport sizes.

With a classic theme, use the block editor for page content and Appearance > Customize or the theme’s own options for the header, footer and global styles. This manual route is fine for a small brochure site, but you must create the pricing layout, responsive spacing and service-specific sections yourself.

Set up navigation and mobile views

Add Home, Plans, Features, Support and a prominent signup or contact link to the main navigation. In a block theme, edit the Navigation block in the Site Editor; in a classic theme, use the theme’s menu screen or Customizer. WordPress supports nested menu items and a mobile overlay menu through the Navigation block.

Check the live site, not only the editor preview. A common failure is a homepage using a different header template, so its menu changes do not match the rest of the site. Another is a mobile menu that looks correct but does not open because of a theme, plugin or optimisation conflict. Test the menu, buttons, tables and checkout links on an actual phone.

Add subscriptions only when needed

If you are publishing information only, WooCommerce is unnecessary. If visitors must buy monthly or annual access, install WooCommerce and a subscription solution, then create one product for each plan or service tier. WooCommerce Subscriptions supports recurring prices, billing schedules, trials, signup fees and optional expiry settings on subscription products.

Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments and confirm that the selected gateway supports the type of recurring payment you need. A gateway that supports ordinary products may not support automatic subscription renewals, which can leave customers unable to complete checkout.

Remember that checkout and VPN or cloud provisioning are separate jobs. You may need an API integration, customer dashboard or manual fulfilment process to deliver credentials, server access or configuration files after payment.

Import a ready-made layout

For the fast route, use a specialised service theme such as Weepn. Install the theme from Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme, activate it, install any required companion plugins, and import one demo layout. WordPress supports uploading a theme as a ZIP file from the Themes screen.

Import demos on a new or staging site where possible. Demo imports can add pages, media, menus and settings, and importing twice can create duplicate content or conflicting layouts. Back up an existing site first, then replace the sample copy, plans, images and links before publishing.

Weepn fits this route because it is built around VPN and cloud service layouts, includes ready-made homepage options and is intended to work with subscription and page-builder workflows. You still need to verify the payment gateway and provisioning process separately.

Questions

Can I build a VPN or cloud service website without a plugin?
Yes, you can build the marketing and documentation pages with WordPress and its block editor alone. You need additional software or an external service when you want recurring payments, customer accounts, automated credentials, server provisioning, usage data or a private client dashboard. For a simple brochure site, adding WooCommerce may create unnecessary maintenance.
What should the homepage of a VPN or cloud website include?
The homepage should explain the service, show the main plans, state important limits, describe supported devices or platforms and provide a clear signup or contact action. Add setup steps, support details, privacy information and an FAQ. Keep technical claims precise, especially around logging, encryption, uptime, locations, storage and connection speed.
How do I sell VPN or cloud subscriptions in WordPress?
Use WooCommerce with a subscription-capable extension and a payment gateway that supports recurring renewals. Create products for each plan, define the billing interval and trial rules, then test signup, renewal, cancellation and failed-payment emails. Payment does not automatically provision a VPN or cloud account, so connect checkout to your fulfilment system or handle activation manually.
Why does my WordPress layout look different on mobile?
Mobile differences usually come from responsive spacing, oversized images, wide comparison tables, separate mobile headers or a menu setting. Preview the published site at phone width and test it on a real device. If the hamburger menu does nothing, check the active header template and temporarily disable optimisation or conflicting plugins before changing the layout.
Is a specialised theme faster than building the site manually?
A specialised theme is usually faster when you need pricing sections, service-focused homepages, responsive headers and demo content immediately. The manual block-editor route is better when you need a small custom site or want fewer theme dependencies. Whichever route you choose, replace demo content and test the payment, signup and support paths before launch.
