DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

You can create a construction company website in WordPress without a page builder by using a suitable theme, core blocks, pages and the Navigation block. Build around services, completed projects, trust signals and enquiries, then check the layout on mobile before publishing.

  3. 03Build the homepage
  4. 04Create projects and service pages

What you need

  • A WordPress site with administrator access
  • Your logo, brand colours and company details
  • Project photographs with permission to publish them
  • Service descriptions, contact details and enquiry email

Plan the site structure

Start with a short list of pages: Home, Services, Projects, About, Contact and, if useful, Blog. Put the pages in the order a potential client needs them. A visitor should be able to see what you build, where you work and how to request a quote without searching through the site.

Prepare real project information before designing. For each project, collect the location, project type, scope of work, completion date and several useful photographs. Avoid building the layout around stock images that you might later replace.

Choose and configure the theme

Use a responsive construction, architecture or business theme, or choose a block theme and build the design with the Site Editor. Set the site logo, title, colours, typography and button style before creating every page. Classic themes normally expose these options through Appearance > Customize, while block themes use Appearance > Editor. WordPress documents the logo and site identity controls in the Customizer.

Keep the visual system restrained: one primary colour, one accent colour and a small set of font sizes. Construction sites often become difficult to read when every section uses a different colour, animation or heading style.

Build the homepage

Create a static Home page with a strong opening section: a clear statement of your work, the areas you serve, a project photograph and a button such as Request a quote. Add sections for key services, selected projects, reasons to choose the company, client testimonials, service areas and a final enquiry prompt.

Use Columns, Group, Cover, Image, Heading, Paragraph, Buttons and Gallery blocks where they fit. Keep the most important phone number or enquiry button visible near the top. If you want a separate blog, create a blank Blog page and assign Home as the static front page under Settings > Reading.

Create projects and service pages

Give each important service its own page instead of placing every detail on the homepage. Explain what is included, who the service suits, the locations covered and what happens after an enquiry. Link related services from each project page.

For projects, use a consistent layout: project name, location, brief, scope, images, result and a call to action. Add descriptive alternative text to meaningful images and select an appropriate image size. WordPress stores uploaded media in the Media Library and can generate several image sizes for responsive delivery.

Set up navigation and enquiries

Add Home, Services, Projects, About and Contact to the main navigation. With a block theme, edit the header and use the Navigation block; with a classic theme, use the theme’s menu controls. Only published pages appear as normal navigation items, so publish the pages before troubleshooting a missing menu link.

Add a phone number, email address and business location to the header or footer. For a form, use a reputable contact-form plugin or a form feature provided by your theme. Send a test enquiry and check the spam folder, confirmation message and notification recipient before launch. Create and review a privacy policy if the site collects names, email addresses or other personal data.

Check the site before launch

Open the site on a phone and tablet, not just on your desktop. Check that headings do not wrap awkwardly, buttons are easy to tap, project images crop sensibly and the navigation opens and closes correctly. Replace oversized images, remove placeholder text and confirm that every call-to-action button reaches the intended page.

For the fast route, use Konstruktion. Its construction-focused layouts, portfolio presentation and Elementor or WPBakery support give you a prepared starting point. Import a suitable layout, replace the demo content with your services and projects, then adjust the global colours, fonts, header, footer and contact details. Elementor’s template tools support importing page templates and site parts, but imported layouts still need content, mobile checks and plugin compatibility checks.

Questions

Can I create a construction website in WordPress without Elementor?
Yes, you can create the site with a block theme, the WordPress Site Editor and core blocks. Build pages for services, projects, about information and contact details, then arrange them with the Navigation block. This route costs less in complexity and is suitable for a straightforward brochure site, although a specialist theme or page builder can provide more ready-made layouts.
What pages should a construction company website have?
A construction company website should usually include Home, Services, Projects, About and Contact pages. Add separate service pages when the company offers several distinct services, and include location or sector pages only when they contain useful, specific information. A Blog, Careers or Testimonials page can be added later if the company has enough material to maintain them.
How should I display construction projects in WordPress?
Display each construction project with a consistent case-study layout containing the project type, location, scope, completion date, photographs and a short explanation of the result. Use a Projects page for an overview and link each item to its own page. Add descriptive alternative text to meaningful images, and compress large photographs before uploading so they do not slow down the site.
Do I need a plugin for a construction company website?
You do not need a plugin for the basic design, pages, navigation or project gallery because WordPress provides blocks and page management for those tasks. You may need a contact-form plugin if your theme does not include a suitable form, and you may choose a page builder or portfolio plugin for more specialised layouts. Keep the plugin list small and test forms after updates.
