How to create a consulting business website with WordPress
Create a Home, Services, About, Insights and Contact page, then set Home as a static front page and connect the pages with a simple navigation menu. You can build it manually with WordPress blocks, but a theme with pre-built layouts and a page builder is faster for a polished first version.
- 01Plan the site structure
- 02Choose a theme and install it
- 03Create the core pages
- 04Build a focused homepage
- 05Set the homepage and navigation
- 06Test the enquiry path
- 07Use a starter design for speed
What you need
- A WordPress site with admin access
- Your service descriptions, logo and brand colours
- Professional headshot or business imagery
- A business email address and contact details
Plan the site structure
Keep the first version small: Home, Services, About, Insights or Resources, and Contact. Decide which service you want to promote most and use one main call to action, such as Book a consultation or Request an assessment.
Prepare a short positioning statement, three to five service descriptions, client results or testimonials, an explanation of your process, and a clear service area. A consulting site becomes difficult to scan when every service is given equal space.
Choose a theme and install it
For the manual route, use a block theme and edit the site through Appearance > Editor. The Site Editor can control the header, footer, templates, styles and navigation, but it is available only when a block theme is active.
If you are using a theme supplied as a ZIP file, go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme, install the ZIP file and activate it. The common mistake is uploading a full download package rather than the installable theme ZIP, so check the theme instructions before uploading.
Create the core pages
Go to Pages > Add New and create the pages you planned. Use the block editor to add headings, paragraphs, buttons, images, testimonials and service lists. Pages are suited to stable information such as About, Contact and Services, while time-based articles belong in Posts.
Give each page one clear job. The Services page should explain who each service is for, what is included and what someone should do next. The Contact page should include the preferred contact method, expected response time and any details a prospective client should send.
Build a focused homepage
Arrange the homepage in this order: a specific promise and call to action, the problems you solve, your main services, evidence such as results or testimonials, your working process, a short introduction, and a final contact prompt.
Use the theme’s global styles for colours, typography and spacing rather than formatting every block separately. With a block theme, those settings are available through Appearance > Editor > Styles; this helps keep headings, buttons and text consistent across the site.
Do not place a large slider above the main message. It often hides the call to action on mobile and makes the visitor work to understand what you offer.
Set the homepage and navigation
Publish the pages, then go to Settings > Reading. Under Your homepage displays, choose A static page, select Home as the Homepage, and optionally select Insights or Blog as the Posts page. The Home and Posts pages must be different.
Add Home, Services, About and Contact to the header navigation. With a block theme, edit the Navigation block in the header and save the menu; creating a menu does not automatically place it on the site.
Keep the menu short. Put secondary links such as Privacy, Terms and detailed case studies in the footer unless they are central to how people choose your service.
Test the enquiry path
Open the site on a phone and desktop. Check that the headline is readable, buttons are easy to tap, the logo links home, the menu opens on small screens, and every contact button reaches the intended page or form.
Send a real test enquiry and confirm that it arrives at the correct inbox. Check the spam folder and configure the form’s confirmation message. A polished layout does not help if the form silently fails or sends enquiries to an unattended address.
Before launch, remove placeholder text, replace demo images, set the site title and icon, check page titles and descriptions, and make a backup. Preview changes before publishing; edits made directly to theme files can be lost when the theme updates.
Use a starter design for speed
If you want the fast route, install Consulting - Business Finance, activate it, and import a suitable demo if the package provides one. Its industry-focused layouts, page-builder editing, responsive design, contact forms and pre-built demos give you a starting structure instead of a blank page.
Replace the demo copy before launch and check every imported page. Demo imports can require the theme’s companion plugins, and a failed import may leave missing images, menus or layout settings. Install the required components first and follow the theme’s import instructions; if the import stalls, hosting limits or a plugin conflict are common places to investigate.
The manual route is perfectly adequate for a small consulting site, especially if you want fewer dependencies. Choose the starter theme when layout work is slowing you down and you would rather customise an existing structure than build each section yourself.

Questions
- Can I create a consulting website in WordPress without coding?
- Yes, you can create the main consulting pages without coding by using the block editor, a block theme or a visual page builder. WordPress lets you create pages, add blocks and set a static homepage from the dashboard. You may still need a form feature or plugin for a proper enquiry form, and custom integrations may require technical help.
- What pages should a consulting business website have?
- A consulting website should normally have Home, Services, About, Contact and an Insights or Resources section. Add case studies, testimonials, FAQs or industry pages when they support a real buying decision. Keep the first version focused: visitors should understand who you help, what you do and how to start a conversation within a few seconds.
- How do I make my consulting website look professional?
- Use one readable type system, a restrained colour palette, consistent button styles and high-quality images. Give each section enough spacing, write specific service copy and show evidence such as outcomes, testimonials or relevant experience. Set these choices globally where possible instead of styling each block independently, so later changes do not leave mismatched headings or buttons.
- Why does my WordPress homepage still show blog posts?
- Your homepage is still using the latest-posts setting or the theme’s front-page template is taking precedence. Create and publish a Home page, then choose it under Settings > Reading > Your homepage displays > A static page. Block themes can also have a Front Page or Home template in the Site Editor, so check that template if the setting appears to have no effect.
- Is a consulting theme with a demo faster than building manually?
- Yes, a suitable consulting theme is usually faster because it supplies page layouts, styles and reusable sections that you can edit instead of creating from an empty site. It is not completely automatic: you still need to replace demo content, check the mobile layout, configure the contact destination and remove pages you do not need. A manual block-based site is better if you value a simpler setup over speed.
