How to create a medical clinic website in WordPress

Design & LayoutWordPress Time About 2–4 hours for a basic site 6 steps Updated 1 Sep 2026

The short answer

You can create the clinic website with WordPress pages, a block theme or Elementor, and a clear mobile-first layout. Add a booking plugin or external scheduling service for live appointments, and keep patient information out of ordinary forms unless the service has been properly reviewed.

The route
  1. 01Plan the clinic site structure
  2. 02Choose your WordPress layout route
  3. 03Create the key clinic pages
  4. 04Make the design readable everywhere
  5. 05Add appointments and patient contact
  6. 06Test and publish the site

What you need

  • A WordPress site with hosting and an SSL certificate
  • Admin access to WordPress
  • Clinic branding, services, staff details and contact information
  • A privacy-reviewed appointment or enquiry system if collecting patient details

Plan the clinic site structure

List the pages patients need before choosing colours or arranging sections: Home, Services, Doctors or Team, About, Locations, Appointments, Contact, Blog or Resources, Privacy Policy and Accessibility. Keep the main navigation short, with Book an appointment and the clinic telephone number visible in the header.

Give each service its own page if patients may search for it separately. Include who the service is for, what happens, preparation instructions, fees or insurance notes where appropriate, and a clear next action.

Choose your WordPress layout route

For the manual route, install a block theme and use Appearance > Editor to edit the header, footer, templates, styles and navigation. WordPress’s Site Editor is intended to control the whole site with blocks, while individual pages are created under Pages > Add New.

You can also use a conventional theme with the block editor. This route is fine for a small clinic with a simple brochure site, but you will need to assemble sections, spacing, buttons, responsive settings and reusable layouts yourself.

Create the key clinic pages

Create and publish the main pages, then add content using headings, paragraphs, lists, buttons, image blocks and columns. Build the homepage in this order: a short value statement, appointment button, core services, clinician credentials, location and opening hours, patient information, testimonials if permitted, and contact details.

Set a published Home page as the front page under Settings > Reading. If you want a blog, create a separate empty Blog page and assign it as the posts page. A common Friday problem is trying to select an unpublished Home page, which means it may not appear in the homepage selector.

Make the design readable everywhere

Set one primary colour, one accent colour and a small type scale in the theme styles. Use high-contrast text, descriptive button labels, real heading levels, useful alternative text for informative images, and enough space around links and form controls.

Check the homepage, service pages and booking path with a keyboard and on a phone. WCAG requires keyboard-operable functionality, visible focus and text alternatives for non-text content; these checks catch menus, sliders and booking widgets that look fine but fail for some patients.

Add appointments and patient contact

A static contact page can show the phone number, address, opening hours, map and a simple enquiry route. For live appointment availability, connect a booking plugin or external scheduling service that supports the clinic’s staff, locations, appointment types, calendars, reminders and cancellation rules.

Do not ask patients to describe symptoms, diagnoses or other sensitive details in an ordinary WordPress contact form. If a booking or form provider handles protected health information for a covered healthcare organisation, check its security documentation and whether the required business associate agreement is available before using it.

Test and publish the site

Submit every form, make a test booking, check confirmation emails, test the telephone link on mobile, verify map and opening-hour information, and review every page for placeholder text. Check that the menu works on small screens and that the appointment button remains easy to find.

Before launch, create the privacy policy under Settings > Privacy, remove any development setting that discourages search engines, and confirm that analytics, cookies, embedded maps and booking tools are covered by your privacy review.

Fast way: Use the Medizco Medical Health Dental Care Clinic Theme with its pre-built medical layouts, Elementor support and appointment-focused pages, then replace the demo content, colours, images, clinician details and booking settings. It is quicker than assembling the same clinic structure from blank pages, but you still need to review the booking workflow, accessibility and handling of patient information before launch.

Questions

Can I create a medical clinic website in WordPress without a plugin?
Yes, you can create the informational part without a plugin by using WordPress pages, blocks and a theme. You can publish services, staff profiles, locations, opening hours and contact details manually. A live appointment calendar, automated reminders, payments or patient portal normally requires a booking tool or external healthcare service, so the design and scheduling parts should be treated separately.
What pages should a medical clinic website include?
A medical clinic website should usually include Home, Services, Doctors or Team, About, Locations, Appointments, Contact, Privacy Policy and patient resources. Add separate pages for important treatments so visitors can understand each service and find it in search. If the clinic publishes health articles, use a separate Blog or Resources page rather than placing posts directly on the homepage.
How should the homepage of a clinic website be laid out?
The homepage should put the clinic’s purpose and appointment action first, followed by core services, clinician credibility, location and opening hours. Add practical patient information such as accessibility, parking, insurance or referral requirements where relevant. Keep the page scannable, use descriptive headings, and make the phone number and booking action easy to use on a mobile device.
Is an ordinary WordPress contact form suitable for patient information?
No, do not assume that a normal WordPress contact form is suitable for protected health information. Limit the form to non-sensitive enquiries unless the provider, hosting arrangement, storage, access controls and required agreements have been reviewed. HHS states that covered entities using business associates for services involving protected health information need satisfactory assurances and a written business associate arrangement.
How do I make a clinic website accessible?
Make the site keyboard-operable, use visible focus states, provide alternative text for meaningful images, maintain sufficient colour contrast, and label links and form fields clearly. Test the navigation, accordions, sliders, maps and booking widget rather than checking only the page text. WCAG 2.2 specifically covers keyboard access, text alternatives, focus and contrast, which are important when patients may use assistive technology.
