DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

You can create an organic farm website with WordPress blocks and a suitable theme; no page builder is required. Create pages for your farm, products, growing methods, visits, and contact details, then build a homepage that leads visitors to buy, subscribe, visit, or enquire.

What you need

  • A WordPress website with an active theme
  • Admin access to WordPress
  • Farm photos, logo, contact details, and opening information
  • Product or service details if you plan to sell online

Plan the website content

Decide what visitors need to know before they contact or buy from you. Prepare a short description of the farm, growing methods, certifications, products, delivery or collection details, visiting information, and a clear contact method.

Use real photographs where possible. Prepare a wide image for the homepage, product or crop images, and a few photographs of the farm and people behind it. Add useful alternative text to images rather than repeating file names; WordPress supports this in the Image block and Media Library.

Choose your WordPress route

For the manual route, activate a block theme and use Appearance > Editor. The Site Editor lets you change the header, footer, templates, navigation, colours, typography, spacing, and page layouts with blocks. It is enough for a small farm brochure site and avoids adding a page builder.

If your current theme does not provide the layout controls you need, switch themes before building every page. A common mistake is styling pages heavily and changing the theme later, which can remove or alter template layouts.

Create the essential pages

Create pages such as Home, About the farm, Products, How we grow, Visit or collection, and Contact. Add a Blog page only if you will publish updates, seasonal news, recipes, or farm guides.

WordPress pages can be created from Pages > Add New, then designed with blocks. Keep each page focused: product information belongs on Products, while farming practices and certifications belong on How we grow.

Set the homepage structure

Build the homepage in this order: a clear farm statement and primary button, a short introduction, featured products or services, evidence of how you farm, collection or delivery information, testimonials or certifications, and contact details. Use one main action, such as Shop seasonal produce, Join the CSA, or Plan a visit.

If you use a classic theme, create the Home page and select it under Settings > Reading by choosing A static page. Set a separate Blog page if needed. With a block theme, check the available Home or Front Page template in Appearance > Editor; a Front Page template can control the front page independently of the Reading setting.

Style the site consistently

Open the Site Editor's Styles area and set the main colours, typography, button appearance, content width, and spacing before fine-tuning individual sections. Use a restrained palette based on the farm branding, and check that text remains readable over photographs.

Put the logo and a short navigation menu in the header. Use the footer for the address, opening hours, email, social links, and any required policies. Global style changes can affect the whole site, so review existing pages after saving.

Add navigation and test it

Use a Navigation block or your theme's menu controls to add Home, About, Products, How we grow, Visit, and Contact. Keep the top-level menu short. On mobile, confirm that the menu opens and that the main button remains easy to find. The Navigation block supports adding pages, custom links, submenus, reordering, and a mobile overlay.

Preview the site on a phone and desktop. Check every button, product or enquiry form, map, email address, opening time, image, and page title. The Friday problem to avoid is publishing a beautiful homepage whose order button leads to a draft page or whose mobile menu still contains placeholder links.

Fast way: use Agronix as the starting theme, import its agriculture-focused layout, replace the demo text and images, then adjust the colours, header, homepage sections, and navigation. Its WooCommerce support suits farms selling produce online, while Elementor support gives you a visual route for custom layouts.

Questions

Do I need a page builder to create an organic farm website?
No, you do not need a page builder for a basic organic farm website. A block theme and WordPress editor can handle the header, footer, pages, homepage sections, navigation, images, buttons, and layout. Add a builder only if you need more specialised visual controls or your chosen theme depends on one.
What pages should an organic farm website include?
An organic farm website should usually include Home, About, Products or Shop, How we grow, Visit or Collection, and Contact pages. Add a Blog for seasonal updates, recipes, or farm news. If you offer subscriptions, wholesale supply, workshops, or events, give each important service its own page.
How do I make the homepage useful rather than decorative?
Make the homepage answer three questions quickly: what do you grow, where are you, and what should the visitor do next? Use a clear headline, real farm photography, a short explanation of your growing methods, featured products or services, delivery or collection details, and one prominent button such as Shop, Join, Visit, or Enquire.
Can I sell organic produce from a WordPress farm website?
Yes, you can sell organic produce through WordPress by adding WooCommerce and configuring products, payment, delivery, collection, stock, and tax settings. For a simple brochure site, you can instead show products and send visitors to an enquiry or order form. Confirm that your payment and delivery process matches your local requirements before accepting orders.
What is the fastest way to design an organic farm website?
The fastest route is to start with a farm-focused theme such as Agronix, import its agriculture layout, and replace the sample content with your own farm details, images, products, and contact information. Review the mobile layout, links, forms, and checkout before publishing rather than assuming the imported pages are ready for customers.
