How to create a technology business website with WordPress

Start with a small sitemap rather than designing the homepage first. Create Home, Services, About, Case studies or Projects, Blog and Contact only where each page has a clear purpose. A technology company usually needs to explain what it does, who it helps and what visitors should do next.

Keep the main navigation short. Put detailed technical explanations, support information and legal pages lower in the hierarchy. Pages are intended for non-chronological content and can be added to site navigation after you publish them.

Go to Pages > Add New and create the pages from your sitemap. On the homepage, lead with a plain description of the product or service, followed by the main benefits, proof such as client results or certifications, a short process section and one primary call to action.

Use the block editor for headings, paragraphs, buttons, columns, images and testimonials. Do not put every service on one crowded page: give important services their own pages so visitors can understand the offer and find a relevant next step.

Create an empty page called Blog if you plan to publish articles. Then go to Settings > Reading, select A static page, choose your Home page as the front page and choose Blog as the posts page. The two pages cannot be the same, and leaving the posts page unset can make your blog difficult to find.

For a block theme, open Appearance > Editor and edit the Navigation area. With a classic theme, use its menu screen or Customizer options. Add Home, Services, About, Case studies and Contact, then check that the menu is assigned to the visible header location.

Set the site title, logo, site icon, colours and typography before styling individual sections. Block themes usually provide these controls in Appearance > Editor; other themes may use Appearance > Customize. Keep one readable body font, a clear heading scale and a limited colour palette so the interface does not compete with the technical content.

Edit the shared header and footer once instead of rebuilding them on every page. Include the logo, primary navigation and a visible contact action in the header. Put contact details, useful links, social profiles and required legal links in the footer.

Preview the homepage, service pages, navigation and contact page at desktop, tablet and mobile widths. Check for clipped headings, buttons that are too close together, oversized hero images, horizontal scrolling and menus that do not open. Elementor provides device-specific editing controls, while block themes let you adjust styles and templates from the Site Editor.

Use descriptive link text, a logical heading order, sufficient colour contrast, alternative text for meaningful images and a clear focus state. A common Friday failure is changing the header or global template and accidentally removing the menu or call-to-action from every page, so review the whole site after saving shared elements.

The manual route is fine for a small brochure site and gives you fewer dependencies to maintain. The faster route is a technology-focused starter theme with demo layouts and a visual builder. Import only the pages you need, replace the demo copy and images, then remove unused sections and plugins rather than publishing a site that still looks like a template.
