How to send newsletters to MemberPress members

Decide whether the newsletter should go to every active member or only certain membership levels. MemberPress can distinguish active, inactive, expired, and non-member users, and its Members screen can filter by membership and status. Do not include inactive members just because they still have a WordPress account.

Also decide whether this is a membership service message or marketing email. Give recipients a clear unsubscribe option for regular newsletters, and keep your membership records separate from newsletter preferences.

Go to MemberPress > Settings > Marketing and enable the integration for your email platform. MemberPress documents integrations including MailPoet, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, AWeber, Kit, Drip, GetResponse, and Mailster. Depending on the integration, MemberPress can pass the member’s name, email address, and membership information to the email platform.

Configure the email platform’s sender address and domain authentication before sending. A connection that saves contacts but does not authenticate the sending domain can still produce poor delivery.

Use a separate list, tag, or segment for each audience you need to target, such as Gold members or all active members. In MemberPress, the per-membership mapping appears in the membership’s options after a compatible email marketing add-on is configured. Select the relevant list or tag for each membership.

With MailPoet, for example, enable the integration in the Marketing settings and then check the membership’s advanced options to select its newsletter list. This prevents you from manually rebuilding the same audience for every campaign.

For a single announcement, filter the audience at MemberPress > Members, select the membership and Active Members, then export the displayed records as a CSV. Import that file into your email platform and send the campaign from there, not from a normal WordPress email or a large BCC message. MemberPress exports can include the records currently shown after filtering.

This route is acceptable for an occasional send, but it is a snapshot. A member who cancels or expires after the export can remain on the imported list, and a new member will be missed. Repeat imports can also create duplicates unless the email platform matches contacts by email address.

When the integration is first enabled, check whether existing members need an import or synchronisation rather than assuming only new sign-ups will be added. The Newsletter MemberPress integration, for example, can create subscribers, map membership levels to lists, and align existing members by email address.

Check a few records manually: one active member, one expired member, and a member with more than one membership. The important test is that an upgrade, cancellation, or expiry changes the recipient’s list or segment as intended.

Create the newsletter in the email platform, choose the list or segment connected to the correct membership level, and add a clear subject, sender name, unsubscribe link, and useful content. Send a test to several inboxes before scheduling it. MemberPress itself lets you edit its built-in email templates, but those messages are intended for events such as registration, renewals, and payment notices rather than recurring newsletters.
