How to create affiliate registration forms in WordPress

The short answer

WordPress does not create affiliate accounts or track referrals by itself, so you need an affiliate management plugin. The simplest route is its built-in registration block or shortcode; use a custom form integration when you need branded fields, conditional logic and detailed field mapping.

What you need

  • A WordPress site with an affiliate management plugin installed
  • Admin access to WordPress
  • A published page for affiliate applications
  • An SMTP or transactional email service recommended

Choose the registration route

WordPress alone can collect names and email addresses, but it cannot create affiliate accounts, apply approval rules or track referral links. Install and configure an affiliate management plugin first.

For a straightforward application page, use the plugin’s built-in registration form. This is usually enough if you only need standard fields such as name, username, email, website and promotion method. Use a form-builder integration when you need a different layout, conditional fields, custom questions or additional automation.

Enable affiliate registration

In your affiliate plugin settings, enable the option that allows affiliate registration. If you want to review applications before they can earn referrals, also enable approval for new affiliates. Configure CAPTCHA or another anti-spam measure if the plugin provides one.

Check the email settings before publishing. Registration, pending-application, approval and rejection messages should use a sender address on your own domain where possible.

Add the built-in form

Create an application page and add the plugin’s Affiliate Registration block. With AffiliateWP, the block can be added to any page from the WordPress editor, while the [affiliate_registration] shortcode is useful with page builders or older layouts. You can also use the Affiliate Area block if you want registration and affiliate login on one page.

Keep the form focused. Make applicants provide only information you will use when reviewing them, such as their website, social profile, audience or promotion method. Username and account email are required in the standard AffiliateWP form, while other fields can be adjusted depending on the form method.

Publish and test the workflow

Publish the page, then test it while logged out in a private browser window. A user who is already registered as an affiliate will not see the registration form, which is a common reason a site owner thinks the form is broken.

Submit a test application and confirm that the WordPress user and affiliate record are created, the application has the correct status, the admin notification arrives and the applicant receives the expected message. If referral URLs return 404 errors, resave the WordPress permalink settings.

Build a custom form when needed

For a branded form, create a form in Ninja Forms and add fields for email, username, name, password if required, payment email, website and promotion method. Use Ninja Forms’ built-in user-information fields for name and email rather than unrelated custom text fields.

Add the Affiliate Registration action under Emails & Actions, map each form field to its matching affiliate field, save the form, and then select the form in the affiliate plugin’s Ninja Forms settings. The email field and username mapping are the usual failure points: if they are missing or mapped to the wrong field, account creation can fail or produce an unwanted username.

Use the fast custom-form route

When you already use AffiliateWP and want a custom Ninja Forms layout, Affiliate Forms For Ninja Forms is the fast route. It turns a Ninja Form into an AffiliateWP registration form, maps Ninja Forms fields to affiliate fields and creates the affiliate account after submission. It also supports Ninja Forms conditional logic and AffiliateWP approval, email and referral features.

Install it, build the form, add the Affiliate Registration action, map the fields, select the form in AffiliateWP’s Ninja Forms settings and test the complete approval and login process before sending applicants to the page.

Questions

Can I create an affiliate registration form with WordPress alone?
No, WordPress alone cannot create affiliate records, approve applications or generate referral links. You can build a basic contact form, but it will only collect submissions unless an affiliate management plugin connects the submission to a user and affiliate account. Use the built-in form supplied by your affiliate plugin for the simplest setup.
Why is my affiliate registration form not showing?
The usual causes are that affiliate registration is disabled, the visitor is already logged in as an affiliate, or the page contains the wrong block or shortcode. Check the registration setting first, then test while logged out in a private browser window. With AffiliateWP, the standard form appears only when registration is enabled and the visitor is not already an affiliate.
What fields should an affiliate application include?
Start with name, account email, username, password or password handling, website and promotion method. Add payment email only if it differs from the account email, and add social profiles or audience details if they affect approval. Do not ask for information you will not review, because a long application reduces completion without improving screening.
Do I need a custom form builder for affiliate registration?
No, you do not need one if the built-in affiliate registration block provides the fields and layout you need. A custom form builder is worthwhile when you need conditional logic, unusual fields, custom branding, additional notifications or connections to other services. In that case, use an integration that maps form fields directly to affiliate account fields.
