The short answer

You can add a few Amazon products to WordPress manually with tracked text links from Amazon SiteStripe. For product boxes, current prices, images, comparison tables or international links, use a plugin connected to Amazon's product data tools and keep the required affiliate disclosure visible.

What you need

  • An active Amazon Associates account
  • A WordPress site with administrator access
  • The Amazon tracking ID for your site
  • Product pages or ASINs you want to recommend

Prepare your affiliate account

Join Amazon Associates for the Amazon store you want to promote and create the tracking ID you will use on this WordPress site. If you target several countries, check each store's programme and link requirements rather than assuming one tracking ID works everywhere.

Add the required statement where visitors can see it: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon requires this identification to be clear and prominent.

Create a tracked product link

Open Amazon while signed in to your Associates account, find the product, and use the SiteStripe toolbar to create a text link. Select the correct tracking ID, copy the generated link, and keep the product destination on the relevant Amazon store.

This is the practical manual route for occasional recommendations. Do not copy a normal Amazon URL and assume it will earn commission: check that your Associate tag is present before publishing. SiteStripe is designed to generate links from Amazon product pages.

Add the link in WordPress

Edit the post or page, add a Paragraph, Button or List block, and select the words or button that should link to Amazon. Paste the tracked URL into the link field, enable opening in a new tab if that suits your site, then save or update the page.

Use descriptive link text such as Check the current price on Amazon instead of repeating the product name as a bare URL. Place the affiliate disclosure near the recommendation as well as in a general disclosure page or site area.

Build a manual product display

For a small number of products, make a simple product card with a heading, your own review or summary, a tracked text link and a clear call to action. You can style it with WordPress blocks or your theme without installing an affiliate plugin.

Do not type a price that may become stale, and do not download or reuse Amazon product images unless the method you use is authorised under the Associates rules. Amazon product data, images and links are governed by its programme agreement, so a plain text recommendation is the safer manual option.

Check links before publishing

Preview the page in an incognito window and click each product link. Confirm that it opens the intended Amazon store, includes your tracking ID, and does not pass through a cloaked or broken redirect. Then check the disclosure on mobile, where a footer-only notice may be easy to miss.

The manual method becomes difficult when a product is discontinued, its destination changes or several posts contain the same recommendation. You must find and update those links yourself, and manually entered prices can mislead visitors.

Use a plugin for the fast way

If you regularly publish Amazon recommendations, the fast route is a product-display plugin such as AAWP. It can pull Amazon product data, create product boxes and comparison tables, support shortcodes, and help apply location-specific links instead of making every display by hand.

Install the plugin, enter the Amazon API credentials and tracking IDs it requests, then insert its product or table block or shortcode into your posts. Amazon requires an Associates account and compliance with its agreement before you use the Product Advertising API, so the plugin does not remove those requirements.

Review the generated output after setup. Confirm that titles, availability, prices, images, disclosures and destination stores are correct, because cached or unavailable product data can still produce an empty or outdated display.

Questions

Can I add Amazon affiliate products to WordPress without a plugin?
Yes, you can add a small number of Amazon products without a plugin by generating tracked text links with SiteStripe and inserting them into WordPress blocks. This is fine for occasional recommendations, but you must update broken destinations yourself and should avoid manually entered prices or unauthorised product images. A plugin becomes useful when the same products appear across many posts.
How do I add an Amazon affiliate link to a WordPress post?
Create the link in Amazon SiteStripe, copy the URL with the correct Associate tracking ID, then paste it into a WordPress Paragraph or Button block. Use clear call-to-action text, test the link before publishing, and place the required Amazon Associate disclosure where visitors can notice it. A normal Amazon URL without your tracking ID is not an affiliate link.
Can I show Amazon prices and product images in WordPress?
You can display Amazon product data only through a method allowed by the Associates programme, such as an approved Amazon data integration or a plugin that uses the required API connection. Avoid typing prices that change frequently or copying images from Amazon pages into your media library. Configure API credentials and tracking IDs before relying on automated product boxes.
Why are my Amazon affiliate links not earning commission?
The usual causes are a missing or incorrect tracking ID, the wrong Amazon country store, a broken redirect, an unapproved site, or links that were copied as ordinary product URLs. Check the generated URL, use Amazon's reporting and link-checking tools, and confirm that your site and disclosure comply with the current Associates agreement. Test links from the published page, not only from the editor.
When should I use AAWP instead of manual Amazon links?
Use AAWP when you need repeated product displays, comparison tables, current Amazon data, shortcodes or links tailored to visitors in different countries. Manual SiteStripe links are usually enough for a few text recommendations. A plugin adds setup and API configuration, so it is not necessary if your site only mentions one or two products occasionally.
