How to create a cleaning services website in WordPress

Design & Layout Time About 2–4 hours for a basic site 6 steps Updated 10 Sep 2026

DESIGN & LAYOUT
The short answer

A cleaning services site can be built with WordPress pages, the block editor and a suitable theme; no plugin is needed for a simple brochure site. Add a booking or quote plugin when customers must choose services, dates or payment online.

The route
  1. 01Plan the page structure
  2. 02Choose your manual design route
  3. 03Create the core pages
  4. 04Set the homepage and navigation
  5. 05Add enquiries or bookings
  6. 06Use a cleaning-specific theme

What you need

  • A WordPress website with administrator access
  • Your logo, colours and service photos
  • A list of cleaning services and service areas
  • A business phone number and email address

Plan the page structure

Start with a small structure: Home, Services, About, Service areas, Contact and, if required, Booking. Create a separate page for important services such as regular cleaning, deep cleaning, end-of-tenancy cleaning and commercial cleaning when each needs different copy or search visibility.

Decide the main action before you design. Use one primary call to action, such as Request a quote or Book a cleaning, and repeat it in the header, homepage and service pages.

Choose your manual design route

For a simple brochure site, use a WordPress block theme and edit it through Appearance > Editor. You can change the header, footer, templates, colours, typography and page layouts without writing code. Classic themes normally use Appearance > Customise instead.

The manual route is fine when you only need pages, images, text, buttons and a contact method. Its drawback is that you must assemble the service sections, mobile spacing, header calls to action and booking layout yourself, and a theme change can require design work again.

Create the core pages

Go to Pages > Add New, add each page and build it with blocks. WordPress pages are intended for permanent content such as About, Contact and service information, and can be arranged as parent and child pages if needed.

On the homepage, use a short headline naming the service and location, a prominent quote or booking button, three to six service cards, proof such as reviews or insurance details, a service-area list and a final contact section. Keep each service page focused on what is included, who it suits, the areas covered and how to enquire.

Set the homepage and navigation

Create a blank page called Home and another called Blog if you plan to publish articles. Then go to Settings > Reading, select A static page, choose Home as the homepage and Blog as the posts page. The two pages cannot be the same.

Add Home, Services, About, Areas, Contact and Booking to the header navigation. With a block theme, edit the Navigation block in the Site Editor; it supports page links, custom links, submenus and layout settings. With a classic theme, use its menu screen. A common Friday-afternoon failure is adding a draft page to the menu: only published pages are available to visitors.

Add enquiries or bookings

WordPress can display the design and content, but it does not provide a complete cleaning appointment system by itself. If visitors only need to call or email, add a phone button and a short contact form. If they must choose a service, date, time, property size or payment option, install a booking or quote tool and place its form on the Booking page and relevant service pages.

Test the form with a real enquiry before launch. Check the recipient address, confirmation message, spam protection, required fields and mobile layout. If an embedded booking service loads slowly or breaks on mobile, use a clear booking button that opens its hosted booking page instead.

Use a cleaning-specific theme

The fast route is to install a theme made for cleaning businesses rather than assembling the same layout from a general-purpose theme. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme, select the theme ZIP file, install it and activate it. WordPress supports installing a theme from a ZIP upload through the Themes screen.

Klenar is suited to this route because it provides cleaning-focused service showcases, homepage layouts, booking support, responsive styling and RTL support. After activation, use its setup options to replace the demo text and images, set your colours and fonts, configure the service sections, connect the booking form and check every page on a phone.

Questions

Can I create a cleaning website without a plugin?
Yes, you can create a brochure-style cleaning website without a plugin by using WordPress pages, blocks, menus and a theme. You only need an additional plugin or external service when customers must submit structured enquiries, choose appointment times, receive quotes automatically, pay online or manage bookings. A phone link and email form are enough for a basic launch.
What pages should a cleaning services website have?
A cleaning services website should normally have Home, Services, About, Service areas and Contact pages. Add individual pages for high-value services such as deep cleaning or end-of-tenancy cleaning when they need separate details. Add a Booking or Request a quote page if customers can schedule work or send property information online.
Why is my homepage not showing the page I designed?
Your homepage may still be displaying recent posts instead of your designed page. Go to Settings > Reading, choose A static page, then select the intended Home page. Also check that the page is published and that the theme has not assigned a different front-page template. WordPress documents this setting as the control for choosing posts or a static front page.
Why is a page missing from the WordPress menu?
A page is often missing because it is still a draft, was not added to the active navigation menu or was added to a different menu location. Publish the page, edit the Navigation block or menu used by the header, and check the menu on the front end. With the Navigation block, only published pages appear when you add page links.
Should I use a page builder for a cleaning website?
You do not need a page builder for a straightforward cleaning website because the WordPress block editor can handle text, images, columns, buttons, galleries and service sections. A page builder is useful when you need more visual controls or when your chosen theme is built around one. A cleaning-specific theme can be faster because the common service and booking layouts are already prepared.
