How to build a wedding website in WordPress

Keep the first version small. Create a home page, Our story, Schedule, Venue, Wedding party, Gallery, RSVP and FAQ page. Put the date, location, RSVP deadline and contact details where guests can find them without searching.

Prepare compressed photos before uploading them. Use one clear hero image, consistent image shapes and short sections. A wedding site is usually viewed on a phone, so avoid large paragraphs and menus with too many items.

For the manual route, install a responsive block theme and use Appearance > Editor to adjust the site styles, header, footer, templates and navigation. The Site Editor lets you change global colours, typography and layout, while templates control the structure shared by pages.

You can also use a classic theme and its Customizer, but the available controls vary by theme. Do not edit the theme files directly for small design changes because an update can overwrite them.

Go to Pages > Add New and create the pages from your plan. Build each page with Group, Columns, Cover, Image, Gallery, Buttons, Spacer and Heading blocks. Add one clear button linking to RSVP near the top and again near the end of longer pages.

Set the home page under Settings > Reading if you want a static front page, then add the main pages to your navigation. WordPress uses the Reading settings to decide whether the site displays latest posts or a static page as its front page.

Set two or three colours, one heading font and one body font, then reuse them throughout the site. Make the home page follow a simple order: hero image, names and date, RSVP button, event summary, short story, venue, gallery preview and final RSVP call to action.

With a block theme, edit the header and footer as template parts so the changes apply consistently across the site. If you change a shared template, check every page afterwards because the same change can affect all pages using it.

WordPress can handle the design with its built-in blocks, but a proper RSVP workflow normally needs a form plugin or an external form service. Add fields for guest names, attendance, meal choice, dietary requirements and additional guests, then send submissions to an address you check regularly.

Add the schedule and venue with ordinary content blocks. A gallery can use the core Gallery block. A countdown, map with multiple locations or guest list management may need theme features or separate plugins. Keep the RSVP form on its own page and test confirmation messages before sharing the site.

Open the site on a phone and check the menu, RSVP button, form, map, gallery and countdown. Test the form with a real submission and confirm that the email arrives. Check that dates include the time zone and that the venue address opens the correct location.

A common failure after importing a design is an empty or incorrect home page because the static front page, template or imported content was not assigned correctly. Demo imports can also duplicate menus or finish without importing all media, so review Settings > Reading, the navigation, pages and Media Library before publishing.
